CVA Caplocks and Flintlocks
CVA Guns Caplock and Flintlock muzzleloaders
For many years when most hunters thought of a muzzleloader they pictured a gun like Daniel Boone or Davy Crockett carried on the frontier. CVA guns were often built as replicas of famous rifle designs from this era of American history. Guns like the ST. Louis Hawken were styled after the Hawken rifle carried by many a frontiersman. They were availible in .45, .50, and .54 calibers and with flintlock or percussion ignition. Like CVA's guns today they were imported and offered an affordable alternative to the custom built rifle replicas and the more expensive American made Thompson Centers. Today, to most hunters, muzzleloader means "inline" muzzleloader. Inline guns, with their greatly increased performance and more reliable ignitions have pushed the replica guns almost entirely out of the market. CVA no longer imports any of these older styled guns. However, quite a few are still in circulation and CVA and others still manufacture parts such as nipples and flints. cva keystone blackpowdertradingpost
